Welcome to the Team Institute fundraising page for AIDS Walk 2019!
Who we are: We are the research, education and community engagement arm of Equitas Health and are recruiting team members this year to help us raise money for our community engagement efforts. Our goal at the Institute is to reduce health disparities experienced by LGBTQ and HIV+ community members.
We do this by educating health and social service providers to treat us with cultural humility. We also provide community based health education and empowerment workshops. These workshops promote healthy behaviors for LGBTQ and HIV+ individuals, ensure the community is able to locate culturally appropriate providers and ensure patients know their rights.
Why each of us are walking:
Ramona: "I’m walking because HIV/AIDS disproportionately affects the trans community, particularly trans women of color, and that’s not widely known or understood. It’s important to walk in order to raise awareness and funds that will make a difference for this community.”
Zoe: "Because knowledge is power and everyone deserves to know that U=U. Consistent treatment and the U=U outcome isn’t just life-saving and good for public health, it’s also life changing for individual’s grappling with an HIV diagnosis and the stigma long associated with it. We need to end that stigma and work to change this culture that is hurting folks living with HIV."
Meyerlyn: "I have seen how stigma disrupts connection and support for people with HIV/AIDS (VIH/SIDA), especially for my tia. It is not talked about in my community and family and this further harms those who need the support and need treatment. I'm walking to end the stigma and to increase compassion and care."
Thank you for all you do to help with this work. Your donations will assist us in providing workshops of this kind all over the state of Ohio.
