Thanks for visiting our 2017 Dr. Robert J. Fass Memorial AIDS Walk Central Ohio team page. We are excited to be able to support an effort that does such critical work in our community.
This walk has recently taken on a very different meaning for team #DOMMSQUAD. We are still mourning the loss of our beloved friend Dominic Munafo who was diagnosed and passed away from this horrible disease. We are walking in his remembernce and so that others who follow will not experience the pain and loss that so many of Dominic's friends and family have.
- In central Ohio a new infection occurs every 22 hours - among the highest rates in the nation. Most of these new infections occur among youth ages 13-29.
- 1 in 8 people with HIV don’t know they are infected, don’t get HIV medical care and can pass the virus on to others without knowing it.
- Thanks to medical advances, if we get HIV-positive individuals quickly diagnosed and into treatment, they have near-normal life expectancy and are far less likely to transmit the virus (up to 96% less likely).
- Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is a new HIV prevention method that is used to help HIV-negative individuals reduce their risk of becoming infected with the virus by taking a once-daily pill.
The participating AIDS service organizations that benefit from AIDS Walk are at the forefront of providing services to meet the needs of HIV positive individuals in central Ohio. Won't you join us in the fight against this disease?
We will be participating in the 2017 Dr. Robert J. Fass Memorial AIDS Walk Central Ohio on Saturday, April 15, 2017 at McFerson Commons in downtown Columbus. You can show your support by joining this team, making a donation on this page or to one of the team registered participants or even just showing up to cheer us on.
This is more than just a walk!
