I have seen people fundraising for AIDS Walk Greater Toledo on the street. Should I donate to someone I do not know who is collecting donations on the street, in public spaces, or even door-to-door?

Q: WHERE AND WHEN IS AIDS WALK GREATER TOLEDO 2017?
A: AIDS Walk Greater Toledo will take place on Saturday, April 29, 2017. The event will be held at Ottawa Park, in Toledo. Registration opens at 9:00 AM, opening ceremonies start at 10:00 AM, the 5K Run steps off at 10:30 AM, and the 5K Walk/1 Mile Stroll starts at 10:30 AM. The AIDS Walk will take place rain or shine!

Q: HOW LONG IS THE AIDS WALK GREATER TOLEDO ROUTE?
A: AIDS Walk is 5K (3.1 miles) long and should take approximately 1-1.5 hours to complete if walking. There is also a one-mile stroll option.

Q: WHERE DOES THE MONEY THAT IS RAISED GO?
A: AIDS Walk Greater Toledo benefits several organizations in Ohio and one even in Honduras! Your efforts to spread awareness about HIV/AIDS and fundraising will have far-reaching, impactful effects.

Q: TO WHOM SHOULD DONATION CHECKS BE MADE OUT TO?
A: Please make all checks out to Equitas Health.

Q: WHERE DO I MAIL DONATIONS?
A: Donations should be mailed to Equitas Health, Attn: AIDS Walk Greater Toledo, 3450 West Central Ave, Suite 210, Toledo, OH 43606. Please clearly indicate the name of the participant you are sponsoring on the check or on a gift form (download from the Fundraising Toolkit). Otherwise, your gift will be credited as a general event gift.

Q: HOW DO I DONATE TO THE WALK ONLINE?
A: Click on the "Donate" link on the website, to the right. You'll then have the option of donating to a specific walker or team, or you can donate to the general Walk fund. 

Q: HOW DO I GET TO OTTAWA PARK?
A: There is plenty of free parking at the park.

Q: WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME ON WALK DAY?
A: We recommend you bring the following items with you on Walk day: Any donations you have to turn in, comfortable walking shoes, sunscreen, water, snacks, and a raincoat or extra layer, weather permitting. You are also welcome to bring wheelchairs, strollers, and dogs on a leash. Please do not bring bicycles or skateboards.

Q: IS THERE A MINIMUM AMOUNT I NEED TO FUNDRAISE IN ORDER TO WALK?
A: No. There is no minimum fundraising goal in order to participate in AIDS Walk Greater Toledo. We will gratefully accept any amount and all of the funds raised go to support the programs and services of the Equitas Health. It is with your help that we will stop the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

Q: ARE THERE ADVANTAGES TO FUNDRAISING ONLINE?
A: Yes. Our online fundraising Participant Center is packed with features tohelp you achieve your fundraising goal. Some of the features are:

 

  • The Participant Center provides you with powerful tools to make fundraising easier. Our software allows you to input your contacts online, and then tracks your correspondence with donors, so you can see who has responded your requests and who needs a thank you note. Each donation appears on your Participant Center automatically. This helps you track your progress and encourages your sponsors to help you reach your goal.
  • Friends and family can log on and support your efforts quickly and easily.
  • Automated acknowledgement messages are sent to all of your online sponsors.

Q: WHAT IF I’M NOT COMFORTABLE RAISING MONEY ONLINE?
A: We realize some of you may not feel comfortable with online transactions. In addition to credit cards, we accept checks and cash, which you can either mail to the AIDS Walk Greater Toledo office or bring with you on Walk day. When you register, be sure to check off the materials you wish to receive in the mail. You can also use our website to print out all the forms that you will need to make an offline donation.

Q: I’D LIKE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE WALK, BUT I CAN’T MAKE IT THAT DAY. WHAT CAN I DO?
A: There are many ways to support AIDS Walk Greater Toledo, even if you are unable to join us on April 29th. You can always register as a Virtual Walker. Virtual Walkers are registered Walk participants. They are given a personal participant page and are able to fundraise just like other walkers. Although they can’t be there with us at the event, they can support our services and raise awareness for HIV/AIDS.

Q: HOW CAN I MAKE A GENERAL AIDS WALK DONATION?
A: To make a general event donation, click on the “Donate” link. Please follow the instructions on that page to complete your donation.

Q: HOW CAN I DONATE TO A SPECIFIC TEAM OR TO A SPECIFIC WALKER/RUNNER?
A: To sponsor a specific Walk or Run participant, go to AIDS Walk Greater Toledo’s home page, and then search for the participant you wish to sponsor by first name, last name, or team name. Once you have located the correct person, click on that person’s name to visit their personal fundraising webpage. From there, click the link that says “Donate Now!” and follow the instructions on that page to complete your donation. If you wish to donate to a specific Walk participant by check, please download a pledge form from the website, and mail that in with your check made out to “Equitas Health".

Q: I HAVE SEEN PEOPLE FUNDRAISING FOR AIDS WALK GREATER TOLEDO ON THE STREET.  SHOULD I DONATE TO SOMEONE I DO NOT KNOW WHO IS COLLECTING DONATIONS ON THE STREET, IN PUBLIC SPACES, OR EVEN DOOR-TO-DOOR?
A: No. We strongly discourage our participants from collecting donations in public spaces such as street corners, on public transportation, street festivals, and door-to-door to businesses or homes. We advise you not to give donations (cash, checks, or credit card information) to someone you do not know who is soliciting for donations in these settings. Please contact the AIDS Walk Greater Toledo office for more information, or if you feel someone is collecting funds in an unsafe or unendorsed manner.

Q: WHAT IS A WALK TEAM?
A: A Walk Team is group of people who decide to walk together and raise funds for AIDS Walk Greater Toledo. A Team can be any number of people from 2 and up. Teams can represent schools, community, religious, social or fraternal organizations, businesses, families, or friends.

Q: IF SOMEONE REGISTERS FOR AIDS WALK GREATER TOLEDO AS AN INDIVIDUAL, CAN THEY STILL JOIN MY TEAM?
A: Yes! To join a team after you have registered as an individual, login to your Participant Center, click on “Change Team Membership” and search for the team. If you have trouble with this, please call the AIDS Walk Greater Toledo office at (419) 508-1681 or email jenniferwakefield@equitashealth.com and ask to be transferred to the team that you wish to join.

Q: WHAT IS A GOLD RIBBON TEAM?
A: Teams that collectively raise more than $10,000 will be named Gold Ribbon Teams for AIDS Walk Greater Toledo. Our Gold Teams exemplify the sense of spirit, community, and enthusiasm for which AIDS Walk Greater Toledo strives. These teams show immense amounts of dedication AIDS Walk Greater Toledo, and to thank them for their outstanding contributions, we offer these teams special “perks” such as dedicated fundraising support, their own tent at AIDS Walk Greater Toledo, recognition on the AIDS Walk Greater Toledo website, and gold crowns to wear on Walk day.

Q: WHAT IS THE GRAND WALKER CLUB?
A: The Grand Walker Club is made up of individual participants who raise $1,000 or more for AIDS Walk Greater Toledo. This club was created to honor and support the hard work and impressive fundraising that these participants contribute to AIDS Walk Greater Toledo. They truly go the “extra mile!” Grand Walkers are entitled to special incentives such as entrance to the VIP breakfast, an express registration area, recognition on the AIDS Walk Greater Toledo website, dedicated fundraising support, and a special Grand Walker gift.

Q: IS THERE A DEADLINE TO REGISTER FOR AIDS WALK GREATER TOLEDO?
A: No. You can register for AIDS Walk Greater Toledo 24-hours-a-day by visiting our website http://www.aidswalkohio.com. Online registration will close at 10pm on Friday, April 28th, but you can register in person by visiting the AIDS Walk Greater Toledo Registration Tent the morning of AIDS Walk Greater Toledo on Saturday, April 29th. Registration opens at 9:00 AM.

Q: CAN SOMEONE REGISTER DURING AIDS WALK OHIO AND STILL BE ADDED TO MY TEAM?
A: Yes. When you turn in your pledge money at sign-in/registration, be sure to write your name and the name of the team you are walking with on your pledge sheet and pledge envelope. Please also let the registration volunteer know that you are joining a team so they can be sure you have filled in this information correctly. We will make sure that you are added to the team.

Q: DO TEAM WALKERS HAVE TO REGISTER/SIGN-IN AT THE SAME PLACE AS INDIVIDUAL WALKERS?
A: Yes. There is one sign-in/registration tent for all walkers/runners.

5K RUN FAQs

Where and when is the 5K Run?

Q: WHERE AND WHEN IS THE 5K RUN?
A: The 5K Run will also take place on Saturday, April 29, 2017 at Ottawa Park. Run registration opens at 9 AM, and the Run begins promptly at 10:30 AM. The Run takes place rain or shine!

Q: HOW LONG IS THE RUN ROUTE?
A: The 5K Run is 5K (3.1 miles) long.

Q: HOW DOES DAY OF EVENT RUN REGISTRATION WORK?
A: If you have pledge money to turn in, please do so at the registration tent. You will pick up your bib number at the registration tent as well. We suggest arriving early (check-in opens at 9 am) as the lines do get long.

Q: IS THERE SOMEWHERE I CAN LEAVE MY BELONGINGS WHILE I AM RUNNING?
A: No. Please do not leave any personal belongings in the park unattended.

Q: I FORGOT MY USERNAME AND PASSWORD. 
A: When you register, you will receive an email with your username and password. If you forget either, or you lose the email, simply go to registerand click on “email me my login information” button follow the prompts. You’ll then be mailed a new password. If you need your username sent, click on “send username”. If you still have problems, please contact the AIDS Walk Greater Toledo Office for help.

Q: HOW DO I CHANGE MY USERNAME AND/OR PASSWORD?
A: First, login to the site using your username and password. Once you log in,you will see an additional link on the top of the page called "Profile". Click on it and you will be able to change your contact information, email address, username, and password. All changes will be made to your account immediately and there is no need to sign back in.

Q: I WALKED LAST YEAR. CAN I USE THE SAME USERNAME AND PASSWORD?
A: Yes, you may use the same username and password as you have in the past.

>Q: IS MY ADDRESS BOOK PRIVATE?
A: Yes. Your address book is only visible to you, when you are logged in to your Participant Center. Walk staff do not have access to any information in your address book.

Q: I JUST SIGNED UP, HOW DO I FIND OUT WHAT MY PASSWORD IS?
A: Your login name and password will be emailed to you. If you deleted your email, or if you are still having problems logging in, Please contact the Special Events Coordinator, Jen Wakefield at (419) 508-1681 or jenniferwakefield@equitashealth.com.

Q: WHAT IS A PARTICIPANT CENTER?
A: A Participant Center is a page for you to use to fundraise and raise awareness about HIV/AIDS. Your page is a powerful fundraising tool that you can use to make your Walk fundraising easier, faster, and more accessible to your donors. This page can be customized with your own pictures, text, style, and color. You can use your page to upload your address book, write, and send your fundraising letters, track your fundraising progress, and send follow up and thank you letters to your donors. Once you register online, you will automatically have a Participant Center created for you.

Q: WHERE IS MY PARTICIPANT CENTER?
A: Once you have registered, you will automatically be given a Participant Center. To access it, just log in and click on the “Participant Center” from the navigation bar. From here you will be able to edit and personalize your page.  

Q: DO I HAVE TO USE AND CHANGE MY PARTICIPANT CENTER?
A: Though it is not required to use or change your Participant Center, we strongly encourage you to do so. The more personalized your page is, the more effective it will be as a fundraising tool. Once you are registered, a Participant Center will be created for you by default, and default fundraising language will appear on your page. You can leave this as it is, or you can update the language, style, and pictures as often as you like.

Q: HOW DO I CHANGE MY PERSONAL FUNDRAISING GOAL?
A: First, you will need to login to your participant center. You will see your Goal in Participant Center, you can click to modify your personal fundraising goal. Enter your new goal and submit the changes.

Q: HOW CAN I SEE WHO HAS DONATED TO ME?
A: You will automatically receive an email notifying you when a donation has been made. You can also log into the site using your Username and Password and go to your Participant Center. Click on the "Progress" tab - this will allow you to view your donor list and the amounts that have been donated.

Q: HOW DO I CHANGE A NAME ON THE FUNDRAISING HONOR ROLL?
A: To change a name on the Fundraising Honor Roll, find the person whose name you want to change in your uploaded Address Book, click on the “edit” link, and make the necessary changes. Once you have made the changes, click “save” and the changes will then appear on the Fundraising Honor Roll. 

Q: WHY DON’T ALL OF MY DONORS APPEAR ON MY FUNDRAISING SCROLL?
A: Once you have received more than 20 donations, the fundraising scroll will display only your top 20 donors.

Q: CAN I CHANGE MY TEAM NAME, TEAM DIVISION, TEAM GOAL, AND TEAM PAGE CONTENT?
A: Only the team captain has the ability to change the team name or team division. If you are the team captain, login to your participant center and click the "Team Page" button on the top right. On the Team Progress Page, team captains will have the ability to update the team name, division, fundraising goal, the team photo and text.

Q: HOW CAN I SEE WHO IS ON MY TEAM?
A: Login to the site using your username and password. Go to your Participant Center and click the "Team Page" tab, then click “View Team Page” this will allow you to view your team roster and the amounts raised by each team member.

Q: IS MY INFORMATION SECURE?
A: Yes. Convio, the company that AIDS Walk Greater Toledo uses to store our data, has made every effort to protect your information. They use industry-standard SSL encryption techniques to make sure that your credit card information, passwords, and personal information travel securely over the Internet. They have also installed an encryption engine on our database server so that your data is securely stored.

Q: HOW IS MY CREDIT CARD NUMBER HANDLED?
A: Credit card numbers are not stored in our database. During the donation process, we send your credit card number to an online processing terminal using a secure connection.
